Wednesday, March 10, 2010, 07:00

CREDIT card fraud fell by 21% in the East Midlands last year.

It cost the region £18.9m, down from £23.8m the previous year. The figures relate to cards issued in the UK.

Credit card fraud across the UK was also down, from £379.7m to £317.7m.

Melanie Johnson, chairman of the UK Cards Association, which represents credit and debit card providers, said: "A fall in card fraud is good news for everyone.

"We recognise cards will always be targeted by criminals, so we are determined not only to continue to deter those who are behind this type of crime but also to make sure innocent victims don't lose out."
