Nottingham's RH Group sells packing business to Bamptons

Nottingham freight company RH Group has quit the export packing business. It has sold its subsidiary RH Export Packers to specialists Bamptons for an undisclosed sum.

About 15 jobs move to the new owners who are based nearby in Lenton Lane. RH said it had entered into a sale and purchase agreement for the business and assets of RHEP. It carries out specialist machinery packing, predominantly in the Midlands.

Ian Baxter, managing director of RH, said: "Export packing represented less than one per cent of our turnover. We took the view that we had to either invest to build a substantial market share in this rapidly consolidating sector or exit the packing market altogether.

"We decided to focus on our core competencies of freight forwarding, logistics and our commercial vehicle business. I believe the deal with Bamptons is a good one for the customers and staff of RHEP."

Bamptons' managing director Mike Brown said RH Export Packers was a long established name in the sector. "By bringing together the skills and customer base of the two companies we have created a very strong presence in the regional market for packing," said Mr Brown. "The consolidation in our industry, the skills of their staff and the fact that we are located very close to each other make the benefits of this deal obvious, he added."
