Retailer Jonathan Holden has been elected chairman of a major retail organisation.
Mr Holden, who is managing director of the seven-year-old family home furnishing business Holdens of Newark, is now in the British Shops and Stores Association hot seat. And he is calling on more independent traders to get on board the BSSA, especially those from his local area.
"It is a real privilege to be involved in the affairs of the association at a time when independent retailers on the high street have never been under greater pressure," said Mr Holden.
"The BSSA plays a key role in not only assisting independent retailers to trade profitably, but also represents their importance and their concerns to the Government of the day."
The association has 4,000 independent shopkeeper members spread across the country.
