The theme of winners who have come up with products to help the environment was continued at the Business Awards Derbyshire 2008, with Derby firm Enviroquest named as the winner of the Innovation through Technology category.
The firm, based at the Derwent Business Centre, in Clarke Street, develops a wide range of environmentally safer chemical products to a variety of markets.
Central to its work is its nano-emulsion technology, called Nanotech, which is water-based formulas containing no volatile and toxic solvents, which help reduce pesticide usage.
It also makes products based on natural ingredients.
Enviroquest's Bernie Dawson said: "It's a great feeling when your company's achievements, which are the product of several years' hard work, are recognised by experts within the business community.
"It gives a tremendous boost to all those involved with the company including staff, customers and suppliers."
Other finalists in the category were electronics firm Intelligent Distributed Controls, at Chester Park, in Alfreton Road, Derby and engineering company The Greenbank Group (UK), at Swadlincote.
IDC's managing director Kevin Buckley said: "Reaching the finals provides some recognition of our success in developing new wireless products which was for us a completely new business sector in manufacturing.
"We feel this is just the beginning of a bright future for IDC and we hope to be back next year to win the award."
