Digger manufacturer JCB is set to mark the last machine off the production line at one of its Uttoxeter factories before it closes.
The Rocester company is closing its Heavy Products factory in Pinfold Street, after transferring operations to a new £40m purpose-built factory next to the A50, near the town. The final digger will roll off the production line at the old factory tomorrow.
It will bring to an end almost 140 years of manufacturing at the site, which is earmarked for redevelopment.
Former agricultural machinery makers Bamfords started in business there in 1871 and continued manufacturing at the Pinfold Street site for more than 100 years. JCB took over the site in 1989.
Last week, McDowell and Benedetti Architects of London was chosen as the winner of a competition to devise the final design of the redevelopment scheme and is working on its blueprint for the 22-acre site.
